Xavier and National Science Week
Did you know the average adult consumes about 50,000 microplastic particles per year? That's equivalent to about 5 grams of plastic per week and is increasing at an alarming rate. A recent study has found this is a direct result of plastic waste in our environment, particularly in our oceans.
What are the long term effects for us and our environment?
The theme for National Science Week 2020 is "Innovation for our Oceans". Students at Xavier College are exploring the many problems that currently face the health of our oceans which in turn affect Earth as a global system. Plastic waste, coral bleaching, ocean acidification and climate change are just a handful or problems that our students are researching this week with the purpose of finding local and global solutions to these pressing problems.
