Indigenous Community

As a Xavier community we would like to acknowledge the Darug People who are the Traditional Custodians of this Land.

We would like to pay respect to the Elders both past and present of the Darug Nation and extend that respect to all other Aboriginal people.

Xavier College is proudly situated on Darug Land. Prior to European settlement, there were over 270 different nations and over 600 language groups. The traditional language spoken in Western Sydney was Darug.

Xavier College has built a strong cultural community with 60 students identify as being Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.

The Jarara Indigenous Education Unit is located at the Aengus Kavanagh Centre (AKC), Mount Druitt and works with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families across primary and secondary Catholic schools in the Diocese of Parramatta. Jarara is an integral service to families and schools within the Diocese and is committed to the education and pastoral care of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families.
