Three students from Kirinari were officially recognised as having graduated into Year 12 and received their special badges to mark the occasion recently.

Kirinari is a centre for learning which embraces diversity and offers an inclusive education for students with high support needs. It is located on the grounds of Xavier Catholic College Llandilo and was the first of its kind for Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta.

Students Tylah Bose, Savannah Sadler and Cooper Priddis were given their special Year 12 badges as a ‘rite of passage’ by Xavier College Principal Michael Pate and Assistant Principal Greg Malone. They were wished well in their final year at school and have now become role models for other students who will follow them in coming years.

Kirinari Director Diverse Learning Needs Michelle Pittorino said the badges symbolise the start of the transition into their life after school. “For some of our kids it has been quite a journey for them to get to this stage in their educational career," Mrs Pittorino said.

Xavier College Principal Michael Pate said students who enrol in Kirinari are part of Xavier College from the moment they enter the front gate. “All students in Xavier strive to exceed their expectations and our students in Kirinari are no different. They participate in all aspects of College life including: masses, liturgies, walkathons, swimming, athletic carnivals, mufti days and fundraising days" Mr Pate said.

“The Year 12 students in Kirinari are inducted into Year 12, as it is essential all our Year 12 leaders are acknowledged. Each Year 12 student from Kirinari is elected by their peers to be part of the Student Representative Council (SRC) for the following year and also attend the SRC Leaders Conference. Kirinari students also have the opportunity to compete in the Parramatta Diocese Secondary School Sports Council (PDSSSC) and this year one student was named Sportsman of the Year," Mr Pate said.

The aim of Kirinari is to give its students the skills and experiences they require to make positive life choices and to help each student reach their full potential and individual level of independence.
